The doctor visit was very interesting, about my bowel issue. I did get a blood test to make sure my liver function is normal. However, he was more interested in talking about prior surgeries then mentioned the possibility of adhesion. I'd thought of this before, because of the bubble of pressure that develops, extremely uncomfortable, for seemingly no reason, in my left side, and then pain farther down. Sometimes when severely constipated, only ribbon stool, if I contort and pull and get into contorted positions, suddenly I get a release and everything is fine.
For some reason, the bowel issues, when they are extreme, also coincide with snapping and popping sounds in my back when I move, and that I believe is usually tendons.
So I wondered about scar tissue adhesions from former surgery, namely the hysterectomy which also involved lasering off endometriosis all over my insides including on my bowel, on the left side. If scar tissue formed, the doctor said it would not show on any scan, like I've had when the pain and backing up was unbearable and I ended up in the ER. The ER scolded me severely telling me this was not an emergency, even though my PCP at the time, had told me to go.
The bad thing about that ER trip was that I was in severe pain and they gave me something for it, which was very nice, to be free of that pain in my side. But they turned me loose, and I had nobody to call and was still woozy on the pain medicine they gave me, even though it had been a good three hours since they gave it to me, so I could not drive. So for three hours I laid in my car in the parking lot, sick to my stomach, but drinking as much water as I could, to eliminate the meds from my system, so I could safely drive home.
Adhesions can be very small, this doctor said, seemingly insignificant. With turning and movement of the bowel or anything else, the adhesion can catch on something else, and turn the bowel, cause it to be squished against something else, or twisted. This can turn life threatening with a total blockage.
I do believe I have one or more adhesions, and this can eventually require emergency surgery. But it seems like surgery again would only cause more of them. But, if blockage occurs due to adhesion, you have no choice.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
