I went to pick up cats, after finding a woman in need of help on craigslist again. Boy is she ever worn out, from working three jobs, trying to make it. She was very stressed, hot and tired, and got clawed trying to put one male in a carrier. So I just brought two of the females, cats left there by a friend of her sons', all unfixed, overwhelming an overwhelmed woman even more. I felt for her instantly and wanted to reassure her, or make her life easier somehow.
I wanted to at least tell her "Don't worry about the cats. We'll get them all done and you just won't have to worry about that one thing."
I've run into so many overworked people lately, people working two or three jobs, so worn out they look like they could drop. Or would welcome it.
The world is getting very hard for people, to survive financially, with gas prices and the high price of food and utilities.
The alleged collector isn't a collector, has only four cats, but I refer to her as AC (alleged collector) because a neighbor had described her as one. Four cats does not a collector make, although, if none of the four females were spayed, she could end up one. Her husband carpool commutes to work in Beaverton and they can barely afford even paying their share of the carpool gas. But they have to, because where else is he going to work?
It's a tough world for people these days, struggling. I know, often it's their own fault they got themselves deep into debt with using credit cards to buy things with money from the future. Then the future turned sour. There's lots of things we don't really need at all, like tons of clothes, and, well, just lots of things. Help getting their cats fixed can ease people's minds on at least one small little thing. As long as I have funds to do so, I like helping these sorts of people out the only way I can, with the cats.
Well, at least the world is still turning and the sun still shining. Smokes and Muffles went to a home today. I usually don't adopt out kittens unfixed but this is a coworker of someone who is very closely associated with my vet clinic, so I figured it was safe. He's a very nice man who adores cats and I think they'll be very happy. He came for two boys, but who can resist the lovable dancing Muffles, born in the trash on the floor of a wrecked car. What a character she is!
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
