I caught the last cat left unfixed there tonight. I had to net as she was flying off the porch. I ended up on my face in the grass but I got her in my net. Yahoo!
Heatherdale has a bunch of unfixed cats again. Not as many as two years ago, when I got 90 fixed. Or was that three years ago?
I got one male done for a couple who live there. Then that woman went door to door, and found a man feeding nine. I have five of his nine in my car right now, ready to be fixed. Then next door, the woman came over and said she had two females and a male, and I said I'll get those done, too right away. On and on...but there are not anywhere near 90 again, unfixed, at least there. Tenant turnover rate there is extreme.
The trailer where an old woman lived was drug busted, tenants tell me. That's the trailer that caused much of the cat problem years ago when I was in before. The old woman's adult daughter and son, who were both middle aged, were big into drugs. I knew that then. It would have been difficult to miss. The old woman now is allegedly living with nondruggee relatives and I guess the son and daughter got busted and might be in jail. I netted Comet when he was just a kitten, in the driveway of that trailer. Comet is still here. Comet of Heatherdale.
Another tenant who was big time into crack and probably selling it, for whom I was always getting cats fixed, also got kicked out. Not many tenants there I recognize from the time I was there last getting cats fixed by the score.
But one long time tenant told me the place is worse than ever, poorly maintained and the trailers left there, falling apart. I don't know if it's worse now or not. It's always been kind of bad there. Many of the trailers are in very very bad shape. I wish I had the money, I'd rebuild them all. Or have them hauled off and burned and replaced.
Money isn't bad, I know. Money can make good things happen. If I had a bunch of money, I have a long list of things I'd do with it. I play the lottery but only a few times a year, when I'm feeling like maybe just maybe the stars are in align and I'll win and then, and then I could fix every cat in Oregon. And then some maybe.
Well anyhow. I have too many cats for tomorrow for one vet. Yup. So I'm going to make Tigard appointments if I can. I use the clinic there too with Poppa funds when I can, and with the Albany cat grant I get gas reimbursed for such a trip. I'd only go with an entire carload of cats, however, to justify the gas expenditure.
The Albany cat grant is great. 10 grand to fix Albany cats. I just started in with it, and have so far taken in, this week and last, 18 cats that qualify for reimbursement through the grant. The vets still bill Poppa for City of Albany cats, but Poppa then can bill the city. So I'm getting Albany cats rounded up primarily now, although I'm still working the Millersburg colonies, too, to finish them up, on Poppa funds.
Right now I have ready for spay/neuter: the last cat from Tattoo Prairie, a pregnant female; five from HD43 colony, one pregnant teen to pick up in the morning from downtown Albany, and three more from Heatherdale to pick up in the morning. That's too many. That's ten. And I want to trap the other four from HD43 while the five are gone and I want to do that tomorrow, so they could be among the five others travelling to Tigard hopefully, on Saturday. I could add on two other cats from Heatherdale and be taking 11. That'd be worth the gas.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
