This male, whose right eye exploded after a herpes infection, is up having his eye removed today. I'm paying for it---well, sort of---it's going on my credit card.
I saw his bulging matted over right eye the first time I was out at the colony. A week later, I saw him, as he ran off when I approached. He had blood all over his right side. When I saw him later in the old car, his eye was no longer bulging and matted over. It had exploded. The cat has gotten skinnier and skinnier over the course of this infection. It was still draining blood yesterday and so I talked to the vet, asked if I could manage to net him, how much would it be to remove that eye, because I couldn't stand to watch him suffer so anymore. He gave me a cut rate quote, because he knows what I go through and what these cats, with nobody to watch over them, go through.
So I went out there yesterday and thankfully the old man wasn't home. The cat was in the camper shell. I knew I had one shot and I didn't waste it. I got him netted and put him in my carrier. Off we went, away from that hell. If he lives, he'll have to go back. I'm overwhelmed in cats. But hell will have been turned into a heaven out there, by that time. I'm working on it. Despite the lack of neighborly involvement or even interest.
The three kittens from that colony, now here, are getting worse, not better, and I am fairly sure all will die, as a result of a URI that went into pneumonia. I have the black teen male, fixed yesterday, also here, treating his right eye. The vet said if it is not treated, he will also lose it, due to a secondary bacterial infection with herpes the primary culprit. This is all so unnecessary.
The neighbor who asked me to help that old man with the cats, the one I talked to yesterday, when I called her to plead for help from her and neighbors, was in Kmart this morning, talking to a clerk. She looked my way, then looked away quickly. See yesterday, she claimed she couldn't help even post trapping notice fliers because she'd had knee surgery a few weeks ago, and was still not supposed to drive or walk much. She claimed her doctor was mad at her and she wasn't going to be even leaving the house for a couple weeks. I knew she was giving me a line of shit, and today, as fate would have it, I run into her right there. Funny how lies can catch a person like a trap. Thank you karma.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
