It's not easy to find kittens and cats homes. Not when so many people don't fix their cats and flood the market with unfixed animals. It's been an interesting weekend. Saturday I spent digging a cat out from under a house. She may have a broken bone, her caretakers tell me, which is likely why she would not come out the way she got in. She's an elderly cat, seemed really sweet.
Then I got caught up in the attack of another blogger. In the end, I decided to remove my post about his attack and him. Better to ignore mean people and their issues.
Then I went over to Foster yesterday which was jam packed and swam a little, jumped off the rocks some. But I got there a bit too late, and the rocks I jump off of, were already in the shade. I keep forgetting it's getting late in the year, too, so the sun isn't out high as long. There was quite a breeze blowing too. Would have been ok in the sun, but in the shade, was kind of shivery. I started to swim across the arm, to the other side, where there was sun hitting, but there were a few too many boats for it to be safe to do that. But I did swim for about two hours.
Foster has two designated swimming areas. One is right near the dam and the beach there are big rocks which are hard to navigate over, to get into the water. The other designated swimming beach is on the north side, in a day park, and you must pay to park there. That swimming area, marked off in bouys, is mainly utilized by kids. And it's often wall to wall people.
Locals often park along the road, then hike down dirt trails through the blackberries to small little beaches or sunny rocks. It can be tough competing to find anywhere to access if you're not a boater. There is one campground on Foster--Sunnyside, that also has day use areas, but they aren't great for swimming.
It's much better to go up for swimming during the week, when the lake isn't covered in boats and jet skiis, making it hazardous for swimmers. It's a great recreational area. But it's not that big when you also add fishermen, and sometimes canoes and sailboats to the mix, too. Seems like everything works out, however. I never hear of too many boating problems.
Greenpeter reservoir, farther up, looks more like Lake Shasta, with steep brown dirt shores, that increase in length as the water levels go down. This reservoir is primarily used by boaters. People camp along the edge of the road by Greenpeter and on up the river, to Yellow Bottom campground. There are some nice swimming holes along the river above Greenpeter. It's beautiful up that way!
I did not go farther than Foster yesterday. I'm also quite bruised up and sore, from spending all that time under a house, and digging the trench under the cement slab with the trowel, while under the porch. I'm not as flexible as I was when young, but I had finally been able to dig a space out under that slab beneath the house big enough for me to slither under, feet first.
But, in the process, I had laid on the ground outside, to look under the lip of the edge of the house, and in lowering my head, while it was sideways, I came down straight atop a pruned twig, which jammed straight into my right ear. My ears are small, so that was really a freak accident. That ear hurt when I'd hit the water at Foster, which was another reason I cut short my swim yesterday.
I also hit the side of my head and various other body parts on short pieces of rebar, extending outward underneath that dark porch, when digging that trench under there. Hence all the bruises. It's part of what I do and I often get battered up.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
