Scio lady is coming soon, to pick up three traps for her appointments Monday and Tuesday.
I've got them ready, sitting out by the garage, for her convenience. These days mostly I just loan out traps or pay for the fixes or both.
She's been catching cats on the porch of an empty house near her son's school. Same old road I caught so many along, that my friend fed. This lady already caught three, and has a barn home for the two teens of the three waiting. They get fixed the 11th I think it is.
I had two spots the 11th but the clinic forgot to enter them onto the portal, so now the two spots are on the tenth, and I gave one of them up to this lady. Apparently she has a barn home for three more of the abandoned cats on the porch of the abandoned house.
The one I'll be picking up for the 10th appointments will be the orange tabby who badly needs fixing in Waterloo. The 2nd cat will be from the Scio lady.
I've been trying to make the house better. The vinyl floor squares that were to last only five years are showing a lot of wear, in the hall, 20 years after I put them in. 20 year lifespan when they declared on the box, "good for five", that's pretty darn good.
I got some rigid floor panels a few months back when on sale. Only one box, which was idiotic, but oh well. Now I'll need another box or two, to complete the hallway end to end. I covered a middle section with these simple to install panels. They're kind of cheap feeling underfoot and don't lock together all that well, turns out, but should last until I die.
Since they are 3 feet long and the hallway 3 feet wide, I installed them that way, very quickly. I caulked the edges to prevent moisture from getting under them that way. But since the one box only did a short section, looks kind of crappy for now. I will be repainting the garish yellow walls too, a light gray. Long overdue on that.
I got a cart! I love it. Silverton Cat Rescue lady gave it to me. It makes my life easier! No more hauling cats in traps by hand. I can just load them on the cart.
Check it out!

By the time I started in on this post again, the traps have long been picked up. Scio lady came with her two boys. I was chatting with Siah, the older boy, while their mother took Liam inside to use my bathroom, talking about all the projects I needed to do and had put off, and he said, very seriously, but you're so lucky to have somewhere to call home. I stopped talking then and said "you are so right." Perspective. Delivered by a ten year old.

It's nice to talk about the projects you have, though. There used to be a bunch of TV shows about redoing houses on a tight budget (like, shoestring). Those have kind of fallen by the wayside of late. I guess the corporate overlords of TV have decided they want us spending lots of money on full renos.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can't wait to paint the walls. I aleady washed them, just need to go to dollar store for paint brushes. I love it that I can get the same brushes there for $1.25 they sell for way more at the improvement stores. I have some plastic I can put down. And one can of paint too I got when it was on big time sale. Good thing is, its a standard color off their chip chart, so if I need more I can at least can match that part. Just a paint job will help this place look better immediately. The bedrooms are still fine. Living room and hall really need it. Houses are to live in though, not to look like showcases or museums and this house has seen a lot of living, a lot of wonderful cats go through it, a lot of fun times, mishaps, you name. its been wonderful and still is.
DeleteThe cart looks so useful.
ReplyDeleteThe new flooring looks good. I hope you can find enough to complete the job at a good price.
The cart has quickly become extremely useful.
DeleteI've decided to remove the panels from the hallway and instead use them under litterboxes in my closet. The cats don't like walking on them and neither do I. Now I'm looking for sheet vinyl on sale.
DeleteThe young boy’s comment made me stop and think, too.
ReplyDeletePaint always makes everything look so fresh. That’s the one decorating thing I understand. 🙄
Lol, I'm glad its not only me, who is not so great at home decor. I got a gallon of wall paint to start with today, but was shocked at Lowe's paint prices. OMG who can pay $50 a gallon. There was paint there, just for your home, going for $149 a gallon!!! WTH!!! So I went to bimart and got a basic paint for just over $20 a gallon. Felt good about finding it. It's eggshell, not Satin but they didn't have Satin in the simple affordable paint. Satin is my favorite finish for my walls since its easy to clean. But can't be too choosy.
DeleteDoing things inside sounds like a good project for the cold weather.
ReplyDeleteIts supposed to rain next couple of days or more, so perfect time to paint. Supposed to be low VOC paint, low oder, which is nice.
