Not So Many Cats

I thought there were more cats unfixed than there actually were down at the Tangent barn.

I was to help the barn owners trap them yesterday, while their friends were going to transport them up to FCCO.

I was supposed to get there about 8:30 a.m. but then got a text that they were already up and at it at 6:30 a.m.  I'd already delivered the traps with cage covers.

I tried to hurry through morning cat chores after that.  I set my coffee mug atop a three foot cat scratcher in the bathroom, along with my phone and somehow it fell off, spilling coffee all over the floor.  The coffee mug shattered and splintered pieces covered the bathroom too.

What a mess.   I cleaned it up quickly and headed out.

They'd already caught 7 when I arrived.  Some of the cats are near tame.   It was chaos out there however.  Every trap was already set, feet from one another.  This freaks cats out. When its a large colony, this can mean you don't catch the wilder ones.  The cats catch on.   I asked them to remove most of the traps and I reset a few and we caught five more.

I left after that, realizing I wasn't really needed.  There were only a handful left to catch.  There were nowhere near the number I had imagined.

I went back yesterday evening, but mostly caught fixed ones.  I set up the drop trap primarily so all the fixed cats could eat, without getting caught in a live trap.   I think I spent 5 1/2 hours there, sitting in my car, which gets old fast.

When I left, there were two left I knew of, still needing caught to get fixed, but my butt was tired and it was near 11:00 p.m.

I think they took 17 up to the clinic today.   I'd taken four from there to be fixed last Monday at OHSS.

I'll get my traps back tomorrow.   They'll even clean them beforehand I imagine.

So it was pretty easy all around.

  1. Well done and I am glad to read that for a change you got some assistance. I hope Mister Black can be caught too.

  2. That's a lot of cats to be caught at one time. With the help, I guess it was easier than it is sometimes, but sitting in your car for 5 1/2 hours is not easy.

  3. It's nice to have help for a change. Not as hard as usual. They sound a little inexperienced, but at least they're willing.

  4. It must be nice to have cooperative people for a change.
