Back on a short dead end street in Lebanon. I can't say how many cats I have taken to be fixed from this street before. Over 40 from the sisters house, long long time ago.
I delivered traps for prefeeding to another house there a few days ago. Previously I'd caught five there to take to be fixed. This time I caught 9.
There are many others in need of fixing along the short street but some of the owners don't want it. Not much I can do about that. I can help the people who do want it.
My car was acting up again. I'd been hesitant to mention the popping sounds I was hearing after the repair. The first time I heard them was on the way home after I picked it up.
I tried to stop by the mechanics place, but he had too many cars he was working on, so I had to park along the street. Now that street has become a major highway. Renovations on the main street into town has detoured most traffic down this residential street, creating a massive headache for those who live along it. I could barely get out of my car the traffic was so heavy going by. Finally he stood out a foot from my door, where oncoming cars would have to go around him or hit him, so I could get out.
He couldn't tell me what was causing the popping noises. But when I got home, worried, irritated, after dark, I crawled around on the ground, with a flashlight, trying to see what could be causing the problem.
I found the problem. One of the link ends was not right. Missing an upper bushing. I took photos and yesterday, sent them to him. He conceded once he saw the photo. He came over last night with another and replaced the replacement. Hopefully that solves that.

Stock photo, not my car, of a properly installed link end. |

Here was the first one he installed. No bushing at the top. So he came last night and put another in. They are not an expensive part. They come with four bushings. |

Babalou in the front, then Studley, who is orange. That black and white one at the back is also fixed, but he was fixed six years ago. |
With all the cats you've trapped over the years I'm amazed you can still recognize them.
ReplyDeleteI remember cats but I'm awful at human names.
DeleteThat sounds like what one of the instructors at my gym would say.
DeleteYou're a good mechanic to be able to diagnose that problem!
ReplyDeleteThank you. If I had tools, I'd just do it all myself. It's a simple car. But in reality, since there was no popping noise before the repair, I knew it would be the link ends or the axle. He put it in that way. He couldn't even figure out how he did that or why. I dismissed it as unimportant since he came over and fixed the mistake. But it did create some stress.
DeleteYour car would have gone downhill quickly with that mistake. It seems a strange mistake to make.
ReplyDeleteVery strange.
DeleteIt's the worst when you want to take a day off but can't. At least you were able to catch the cats you intended to catch.
ReplyDeleteI need to go up by a lake and sit by a campfire and vegetate.
