Spay neuter spots are so difficult to find that there was no way I'd tell the Albany folks to cancel their Friday spots with the FCCO, despite our heat wave.
The long range forecast a week ago, predicted, accurately so far, the downturn in high temps beginning tomorrow when we finally are below 100. In fact, the high tomorrow will be only 92, achieved not til late afternoon.
Only 92. That would be funny to some people. Even to me.
So I have a trapping gig, for the folks with six spots Friday up in Portland, starting at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, because that's when the cats there are normally fed.
They are not sure how many they are feeding but for sure a mom and three older kittens and a couple of others at least. I'll just wing it. I took them a trap several days back to feed in, with it bungeed open so as not to spring. Yesterday I set up the drop trap out there, so the cats could get used to it also. I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to catch them all at once, using the drop trap, go home and kick back the rest of the day? Yes it would be nice.
I will have a day to kill in Portland Friday while the cats I catch are fixed at the FCCO. Mid 80's Friday. I should survive it.
The Willamette River in Portland now has health warnings about swimming due to toxic algae growth. No cooling off in the Willamette for now. I will think of some way to stay cool, but I'm not worried with the forecast out for that day.
Those cats will return to their home Saturday morning and I will immediately then go trap for a mother and four kittens living under a government building in town. I have reservations for them to be fixed Monday in Salem. Sunday will be too hot again for trapping outside of very early in the morning so I would rather give it a shot Saturday morning first. Give myself two days to catch all five.
Anyhow, these are my last two August spay neuter opportunities to catch local cats to be fixed. So far, I have no spay neuter spots in September anywhere. I've put in for some in Salem, but haven't heard.
Good luck - and I hope the weather boffins aren't lying about the temperatures.
ReplyDeleteThe temps were pleasant today.
DeleteGood luck with your trapping. As long as they are good and co-operative people, it should be fine.
ReplyDeleteAll good, took 8 up today to be fixed.
DeleteI'm glad it's cooling off a little, even if it's still really hot. Good luck with catching the latest group.
ReplyDeleteCaught 8, two more than they originally had reservations for but it was ok'ed that I bring the 8. Bad news is there are more there needing caught.
DeleteI hope the weather gods smile upon you and keep things relatively cool.
ReplyDeleteLook like we have rain coming in Monday.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on, and stay safe.
Mid eighties is too hot for me. lol Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I like low 80's as perfect. Or mid to high 70's, but one must adapt now. Our summers have been hotter.
