It's only 101 so far today, although predicted to get up to 104 or 105 by 6 or 7.
We get just below 90 by 10:00 p.m. I think today.
The smoke layer in the sky, from the Lookout Fire, down on highway 126 just north and east of Blue River Reservoir, now with level 3 Go Now evacuations going on, is keeping us cooler than initially expected. Who knew smoke in the sky would keep us down five or six degrees from what was predicted. Well, thank you smoke (I guess).
Two fires, the Lookout and also the larger Bedrock Fire, down in Fall Creek area, which is between highway 58 and highway 126, both have exhibited dangerous behavior. Both have level 3 evacuations for some areas. How tough that must be for those who live within those zones.
Above photo shows the current fire map, with the big Bedrock fire almost dead center. The highway above it is highway 126 out of Eugene and you can see the Lookout Fire to the north and east of the Bedrock fire. The Lookout fire is just north of highway 126, the McKenzie Highway. The tiny little fire dot straight north of the bigger Bedrock fire just south of highway 20 out of Sweet Home is the Wiley Creek fire, which is pretty much out I think by now. South of the Bedrock fire, just outside Oakridge, with my beautiful Waldo Lake farther to the right at the bottom, is the small Salmon fire, which is also almost contained now.
The fires on Maui are terribly tragic.
Flop went to her new home this morning. The young woman also has Sheriff, the boy, trapped at same location. It's a beautiful property. Both cats should be very happy there once the initial fright of change wears off.
Flop has moved on with her life |
Flop, with Skippy |
Sprite, not the greatest photo. She's the girl kitten. |
I still have the kittens, but the young woman who has their mom now, pledged to help find them homes. Skippy, the boy, has someone interested. Skippy is a momma's boy for sure.
I don't do much with it so hot outside. My pool is still empty since after I emptied it, I hadn't gotten around to cleaning and refilling it before this heat hit. I pulled the old window AC unit off a shelf and set it up for the garage so Gigi has a cool spot these hottest days. Tomorrow is the last day for triple digits forecast I think. I don't do a thing afternoons with it so hot. I get up early, do all my chores, including any shopping, then just hermit away the rest of the day.
By the time I finished the post, its up to 102, but still, better than being 109.
Stay as cool as you can. And a big hooray for homes for those precious cats.
ReplyDeleteIt's 9:00 p.m. and still 92 degrees. That's nuts. I'm happy the adults have a home now!
DeleteThat's just too hot, but it sounds like you are managing. Fires are so scary. I hope they're under control soon.
ReplyDeleteHermiting sounds like the right way to go. The fires suck. I hope they get put out soon.
ReplyDeleteWow, what heat! Ugh... How did I fall behind again? ~sigh~ Anyway, best wishes to these beautiful kitties. Thanks again for all you do. ~hugs~ Be well!
