Unbelievably, but maybe not so much in Oregon, a cougar was spotted on Cannon Beach's iconic Haystack rock yesterday morning early. It was seen by an early morning beach goer swimming out to the rock, where seabirds often nest. No the beach goer wasn't swimming out to Haystack Rock, the cougar was. But Cannon Beach is also known for elk herds that wander the beach.
The beach near Haystack rock was closed yesterday but reopened today after the cougar's tracks were seen in the sand leaving the rock. Low tide occurred after dark. You can read the story on link below.
The Cannon Beach cougar story.
The Coast Guard kept flying over and even took infrared images of the cat on the rock. It was quite a big deal for the day. At least for the humans. Maybe not so much for the cat who probably just wanted off that rock for a good nap.
I took five cats up to the clinic in Salem today. I didn't have to trap them. The lady on whose property they reside did the trapping and also picked me up this morning, to ride to the clinic. Since they were in my name, I had to go along. But I did transfer my appointments the 31st to her name, since she can trap her own and drive them up if they are in her name. I won't have to lift a finger.
Here are her five, up at the clinic today: She took the photos and also labeled them with names.
Also being fixed today, only at a private vet down in Brownsville, a male, accidentally trapped last Friday in a trailer park. The lady was after a kitten, but caught the big male. They'd been after him, to get him fixed, for awhile now, so she didn't want to turn him loose unfixed. She cared for him, over the hot weekend, in her bedroom no less, which is air conditioned, determined to get him fixed before release, and he is being fixed today. My nonprofit, HCC, is paying his bill too, but she is trying to recruit donations to help offset that cost, thankfully.
I don't have a photo of him yet, but I'll try to get one from her.
Rogue, a.k.a. vertigo boy, is doing so well still even though he too is elderly and suffers from a bit of head tilt and other issues, after his middle ear infection with vertigo last fall. He now yowls loudly, when he's feeling playful or when he can't get by an issued cat to get out into the cat yard. He's just precious, in my opinion.
So all I have left to do myself this month, is take six Lebanon cats to the FCCO on Wednesday. The lady is catching her own cats and I just pick them up tomorrow evening and transport. She will also recuperate them. So I'm just a driver on this one. She got the FCCO appointments immediately after she called, hoping to find a way to get the mom and her kittens fixed. That was maybe two months ago, when she called.
Hooray for that lady. She should be cloned. And Rogue does indeed sound precious.
ReplyDeleteHa, cloned! That's a good one, but yeah, more like her would be great. Rogue is a sweetie!
DeleteHow nice that you are working with cooperative people recently. There are some good ones out there.
ReplyDeleteYeah, since there are so many cats out there who need fixed and so few spay neuter spots why not reward those who get involved themselves. Is my thinking lately.
DeleteWow, people trapping their own cats and driving them up on their own? It's like the universe is sending you some easy ones after all the crap you've been dealing with with some of these people.
ReplyDeleteDon't fall over with shock, Liz! I almost did.
DeleteNo kidding! I like EC's idea of cloning her. lol And Rogue is adorable. Hugs, my dear. Take care and try to stay cool.
