No Snow Here, But...

We did not get snow here this morning, but Portland got snow.  Roseburg got some too.  My friend in Scapoose, which is outside Portland towards the coast, got what looks like on her videos, six inches.

We may get an inch to a coating tomorrow night, accuweather says.

It's certainly strange weather.   While I waited to pick up the five cats being fixed at the clinic, chunky rain fell.   That's a rather vivid way to say rain mixed with snow.

Lebanon got hail.

And we've had lots of downpours here.  Cold downpours.  Stay inside watch TV and eat soup downpours.

Nonetheless, the vet student trapped five more cats Sunday and brought them up yesterday afternoon.   Four boys, two of them fairly young, and one girl, who has kittens, about three or four weeks old she said, under a trailer somewhere.  So she'll be released this evening.  I gave her food once she was in the car, and she ate it on the way home.  She'll get more food, with the vet student, before she's released later on this evening.  Hopefully her kittens survived.

The vet student already picked up the five cats to take back to Harrisburg.  She will recuperate them.

I guess she's already had lots of litters, the student said, according to a neighbor.

Juniper, the only girl of the five who were fixed today

Did I really think it would snow today?   I didn't know but I hoped it would.

Winston.  The vet student and her husband name them now

Oliver

Dakota is a younger boy

Charlie is young too, and very vocal and also, for a male so young, very stinky.

I'm having an unfixed male visit the yard.  Today again, he was on the roof.  He ran off when I went out.  The weather is horrible and  cold and yet his owner lets him free roam.  I know who his owner is, because I posted his photo on lost and found pets.  She has lots of excuses for not keeping him in or getting him fixed.  Her primary excuse is she says he's allergic to anesthesia.   I told her there are lots of different anesthesias and she claims she's called around.  I seriously doubt that.  She claims she's extremely concerned for him, yet lets him free roam where he could get hit by a car or in terrible fights with other boys.  If badly injured either way, he'd require anesthesia to repair injuries.  So I don't buy that she's very concerned for him or she'd keep him inside, especially in the horrible weather today.

Irresponsible pet owners are quite common, as you might guess given the numbers of unfixed cats in this area.  She seems not to care at all that her unfixed boy stirs up my cats and causes them angst and to start pee marking.   Who cares, you know, if he's doing it somewhere else as long as its not in her house.  What a pain some people are.

I guess I still hope it snows here.  As long as the weather is going to be icky, wet and cold, why not hope for snow.  I am hoping for snow.

I can't imagine why people put up with behavioural issues with pets that could so easily fixed.
As you say, others have to put up with the behaviour too.

  3. Echoing Andrew. Her 'reasons' sound like excuses to me.

    1. That poor cat doesn't stand a chance unless she keeps him in and gets him fixed. I hope he went home yesterday after I saw him on my roof, as the weather was awful, with tremendous downpours and its cold enough to be slushy rain. Who leaves their cat outside in such weather.

  4. Chunky rain. I like it. I think I'll start using that phrase, although I hope I don't have to use it anytime soon.

    1. We had more chunky rain this morning. In fact, for a short time, my car windshield was covered in it. SW Washington got in places over a foot of snow. The mountain passes, through the Cascades, got hammered. We may have more tonight.

  6. Perhaps she just wants someone to fix the cat for her? I know some people would rather have someone else do the hard work. (Well, that's me a lot of times.) I wonder if someone were to say, "I'll take care of it for you," if she'd agree. But you have enough on your plate, so it shouldn't be you. It's her cat, and she should do it.

    1. Well I would but she claims he's allergic to anesthesia, that he crashed once under anesthesia and the vet said he's allergic. She didn't say he has a heart issue, which is the usual reason they crash under anesthesia, but I suspect that may be the case. He'd need an exam to determine that, and then more than just a run of the mill neuter with injectible anesthesia, just in case she's telling the truth.
