Four Years in a Drawer

I would like to salute the benefits of hibernation.

The broken camera I had in the back of a drawer for several years is working perfectly now.  When my other camera broke I thought why not try the other one.  It had many problems years ago, like under exposing all the photos it took and the dreaded lens error, that caused it to turn off moments after I turned it on.   I had kept it intending to try my hand at camera repair one day.   I put in new batteries and took the photos below!  It's magic!

I think there is likely a better explanation than magic.  Maybe moisture?  A lot can dry out in four years.  It had basically the same problem as the one that just broke.  Only opposite.  The latest one began to suddenly overexpose to white all photos.  The one I put away four years ago under exposed all photos to almost black.   So just maybe.....

Four years from now, if I'm still kicking, I'll pull out the other broken camera I just put into the back of the same drawer.  Maybe it will work again too.

  1. Your plan to keep the broken one sounds like a good one.

  2. You're sure it wasn't just a battery change that it needed?

    1. Ha, no, that's the first thing I always check. The lens error thing is supposed to be when a grain of sand gets down between the lens and where it retracts when you turn it off and on. Or something else down in there. There were all sorts of fixes suggested on youtube for the lens error problem. It can also be an internal electronic thing. The dark under exposed photos, I think that was supposed to be a shutter or aperture closure issue, either electronic failure or something caught. But neither of those two things are currently a problem with it. The one that just broke just suddenly began to overexpose, to almost pure white, every photo, which may be a shutter thing too, only it stayng open a fraction too long. I don't know.

    1. Thanks, its only current problem seems to be "change batteries" seems to pop up every time I use it. I ignore it and it keeps on going. There's a battery indicator that shows battery life is fine. Conflicted!

I got the 7 cats in to be fixed in Corvallis yesterday. I originally was to take the black and white cat the feeder lady got on Berlin road...
