I have a cracked window corner. It's an easy repair job, since its the slider half of the window. It will come out easily. I just wanted to take it to a glass shop for them to replace the glass.
So I searched online for a local company that would do that. I thought I found one. They had a contact form, but it would not allow for describing what I needed. I thought that was strange.
For the next three days I got innumerable calls, texts and emails, some of them spam, some legit companies, none were companies that would replace the glass in a window. It turns out the contact form had redirected to Homeadvisor, that is supposed to pair projects needing done to companies. Only some of the companies contacting me were from out of state, some from the east coast. This morning, it was a lady from Georgia! I explained to her what had happened and she was quite nice, but as for the spammers, they were not. I have now blocked around 20 phone numbers, just from that one slip up and a really lousy website (homeadvisors).
I'll wait til spring anyhow. Its just a small crack and I injected flexible epoxy glue into the crack with a syringe and needle, from my cat care kits. It's too cold to put a board across the vacant space right now, for a couple days if I removed the window and took it to a glass shop, if I could even find a legit one.
The windows are all extremely old and aluminum framed, in the house, so I expect more failures in the future. Hope I can find a place to get them fixed should they break.
I took down a cat structure in the house. It was too hard to clean up on top, where cats would sleep and besides, I never meant for it to be permanent. I first built it as a place for Oci, my severely overweight feral girl cat, to exercise and lose weight. But I gave up on that years ago, and then Oci died suddenly two years ago, not long after she had a dental. Heart event.
I had used it after I gave up on it as a weight loss center for Oci as a kitten foster cage.. When I quit doing adoptions, I gave up on that too, and took off the door and sides and added some shelves and cat tubes. But I really wanted it gone, to give me back my space.
Two days ago, I got some bug in me, and energy for once, and took it apart in a burst of good intention. Its so nice to have it out of there. The six foot 2x4's that held up a platform top are all good wood still. I washed them and they're now in the garage. The top, the platform, is thin plywood I will reuse also. I can use most of the screws again too. The two metal shelves are questionable, but I think I can use at least one. The other is badly rusted. Of the two cat tubes, sheet metal duct pipe, one four feet, one three feet in length, I am redoing one to use in a new smaller cat structure. Yesterday I covered the outside of it with carpet and cut half the four foot metal tube in half, so that two feet of it is still an enclosed but now carpet covered tube, while the other half, is half a tube, that can be laid in as a bed. My plans are not yet complete on how to assemble the new cat structure, but I have a good idea on design. This photo was it when I first made it for Oci.
I did a neat job of the construction initially, I thought. The cage worked great for kitten fostering and taming. That proved its best purpose.
Well anyhow, my too short futon is now right there, against that wall. Now I'm not too close to the TV anymore and I have so much space.
I have watched a bit of the Olympics. I like some of the events. Speed skating maybe is one of my favorites. I can't think of any others I like. Speed skating is very exciting and chaotic.
It's strange all the snow events are on manmade snow. The slopes look so odd from the air, these lines of white, for the runs, in otherwise bare hills.
Well done you.
ReplyDeleteI would mostly rather watch the winter olympics, than the summer. Some of it is beautiful. I watched a little of the snowboarding yesterday and was awed by their skill.
The courage of the downhill racers is astounding. To take off straight down at incredible speeds--amazing!
DeleteUnnatural snow is hard to view. Of course I know little about snow, and nor do you much of late.
ReplyDeleteWell done with the deconstruction and saving of materials.
We did just have a five or six inch snow event just after Christmas here, to remind me a bit about real snow. I don't know why I should consider it strange to make snow when we make ice for ice rink sports constantly.
DeleteLooks like you did a great job on it but glad you were able to get it out of the way and reclaim your space if you aren't using it. For the glass for the window look up local glass and mirror shops, not window companies. The glass and mirror shops should easily and inexpensively be able to cut the glass for you if you are doing your own repair. Window companies will want to replace the entire window not just the glass and they will charge a fortune either way. Have a nice Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI'll try that, on finding glass replacement, thank you. Yes, it is a very easy diy repair if I can find the glass.
DeleteWhat a great suggestion! Be well, my dear.
DeleteI'm watching the Olympics, too. Ice skating is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the ice skating too. I'm in awe of those young skaters who somehow handle the intense pressure and put on such a beautiful show. Its so graceful and athletic, all the various figure skating programs.
DeleteIt's good to get stuff done when you have the energy. I enjoyed the opening ceremonies, but I haven't had much of a chance to watch anything else Olympics this weekend. Maybe after I'm done reading blogs.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy watching them.
DeleteWe finish replacing the last window in our place. Sure isn't cheap. But what is when income is limited.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Yeah, the ones here probably all need replaced. Too old, and with aluminum frames that are pretty frail really. Am amazed they have lasted over 50 years (the age of this house).
