What I Did on Christmas

I went and caught 7 cats, that's what I did.  It didn't snow today.  Sometimes it rained and was windy, which was cold, if I'd been out in it, which I wasn't.  I was in my nice warm car.

However, the ditch had water in it.  I had to rig redneck water boots.

Anyhow, I caught 7 unfixed cats at the colony.  I got given ten spay neuter spots instead of five on Monday.   I debated for a short time on whether to cancel or not, because of the predicted weather, in case the weather causes the clinic to close or I couldn't get up to the clinic, due to road problems.  But then I thought maybe the bad weather won't come or isn't that bad.  The forecasts are all over the place and very different.  Finally I thought, 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' because I need to get this colony done.  I can't risk wasting TEN spay neuter spots.  No way.

With the seven caught today, they will make 16 caught there.  Two of those 16 didn't return, as they tamed so fast and went to rescue people who placed them.

I caught two more kittens this time, same deal with them, not going back.  There's at least one more kitten to catch out there.  But for now I have seven cats, set up in traps, in my warm bathroom, on pee pads, and two are big males.  I caught the muted calico, too, a big fat wonderful Christmas present for her, for me, for the other cats, for those who feed them, for the area!

So if the weather is too bad for the clinic to be open Monday, the two kittens will go to foster, and I'll house five others until I can find a place to get them done.   That's not too bad.

And this black tux now caught

Caught this big boy, plus a black male, not shown in photos until I get one

The Muted calico

Probably doesn't show, but this is a really small kitten

This too is a kitten, Crawdad's littermate and should tame

And caught this black tux
Anyhow, I'll get a photo of the black soon enough.

The eagles were out in the field, first chasing one another, then one landed and no doubt was munching on another dead nutria.

So it was a great Christmas all around, even though most of the day I sat in my car, to watch traps.  To catch seven more in this colony, well its huge and a good way to spend Christmas Day, in my opinion.  Now, to hope I can get them fixed Monday.  Weather---please cooperate!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

  1. That sounds like an EXCELLENT use of Christmas Day. I hope the weather holds and you can get them to the clinic on Monday. I have no doubt that you are itching to get more from that colony.
