Tree Time

I enjoy my Christmas Tree.  I do every year.  I like to sit beside it with its lights on.

The tree and outside lights are my decor this year.

I recently received my first Christmas card, from Snowbrush and his partner Peggy!  I love it!

It's tied in three directions so the cats hopefully can't knock it over.  I use plastic ornaments.  Already some, like every year, have become cat toys.

I don't care about any of that.  I just enjoy it.

Slinko is going to the vet tomorrow. He's been occasionally crying out when he eats.  Not often.

I tried to get him to let me look into the back of his mouth on the right side, but he would have none of it.  From what I saw, which was not much, looked good.  He had already had three dentals in his time with me, including one a year ago in December when he also had a cyst removed from his shoulder.  He came from a feral colony, but came out as tame a year later.  The cats from where he came from couldn't be returned.  Terrible situation I got dragged into  Anyhow, Slinko acted feral however when I tried to get him a home.  Ok buddy, you can stay.   That was in March 2013.  He's been with me almost 9 years and judged to be 4 or 5 when neutered just after trapped.  He's allegedly 13 or more years old.  Or so.  Yeah I know things happen when you get old but Slinky's my dysfunctional guard dog cat who thinks I can do no wrong (yeah, delusional).  I want him to be ok so I can enjoy his loyal dysfunctionality more years.  Yeah he's lovably quirky.   Hope its a bad tooth and nothing worse.

Here's Slinko, in a photo I took today

Here's Slinko clear back in September 2013, looking quite the same as he does today.   He was a mature male when I trapped him in that colony in March of 2013.

We've had some weather going on.   Heavy heavy rains and yesterday pretty good winds, gusting higher that made for interesting drives in my little square car.  When winds are from the south, and strong, and I'm driving east or west, like to Lebanon, my car rocks with the force of it, in the open spaces, with the bare fields either side.  If travelling north however I can get great gas mileage with help from that tail wind.

The mountains are snow covered now and the skiers and snow boarders are happy as Santa on the day after Christmas.

There was no real wind damage around here.  A tree fell across the park road, but one lane was clear when I stopped by.  It would be inappropriate to complain about much of anything when you think about what happened in Kentucky.  The damage and loss have left many of us stunned.  If you live in one of the affected areas, here is a virtual hug to you and yours.

A canopy took a little trip with the wind too.

Lots of Canada Geese are back for the winter from parts unknown up north.

Cumi is very lonely and forlorn during the winter months.  His best friend Paws vanished last spring and is presumed deceased.  I wish I could find him a suitable home.  He's not tame but is benign wild, not aggressive whatsoever and would do well here, if I had the room, for his old age.

If you want to see something fabulous, I'll share it with you.  I didn't take the following video.  My friend Rhonda of Salem did and then sent it to me.  She's been fostering Crawdad from the RV park wrecking yard colony here in town.  I'd trapped two more there, when I had the open reservations, first of last week and Rhonda just happened to be bringing in a cat when I took in the two wrecking yard young ones plus Sunshine the buff orange kitten from the barn.   She offered to take on Crawdad after she was fixed, to see if she could be tamed.  The good thing was she could go back to her colony if she wouldn't tame.  It's only been a week and look how she's come around already.

How about a few more cat photos for the end?

Jack

Muffy

Shaulin, a very old gal now, who loves to play!

Starr is gorgeous

Lastly, the lovely Mona Lisa

Happy Holiday to all!

  1. Crawdad is WELL on the way to being tamed. Love that purr.
Fingers crossed for Slinko (and you).
And I love your tree. It is years since we have had one, and I also liked just sitting with it. Perhaps I will get off my behind and put one up later. Perhaps.

    1. They're sure colorful and beautiful to have around awhile. I love mine. Its a fake tree I got at the Habitat Restore over a decade ago. I've had to cut the original lights on it off, one string by one, since they long ago died but were so tightly wrapped around the branches, I haven't bothered to cut all of them off yet.

    1. Me too. He seems so human in the ways he struggles, to curb his impulse to bully and dominate, to find friendship and not wreck it, and to share me with other cats.

  4. There are so many different styles that people have for decorating Christmas trees and they all look festive. Yours especially does. I bet the cats do to. My two 18 year old cats, who have a hard time getting around, have managed to jump into boxes and knock things over to investigate the decorations.

  5. Your tree is so cheering. :) Best wishes to precious Slinko. I'm sorry for Cumi but oh, so happy for Crawdad. That speckled belly is adorable. Jack, Muffy, Shaulin, Starr, and Mona Lisa all look wonderful. It's obvious you provide an excellent and loving home.
