Not Able to Comprehend

Who can comprehend what has gone on near Boulder today.

Winds over 100 mph.  Wildfires sweeping through towns.  People running for their lives.

Is this the new normal?  Disaster after disaster?

I try not to think about all the animals who have died today in those fires.   I can't imagine the loss people are going through.  There is nothing more terrifying that I could imagine than running through hurricane force winds for you life with a wall of flames in pursuit.   There are already frantic posts about dogs in a boarding facility behind a Costco.  Have you seen my dog?  Do you know if any got out?

Those who survive this will face what all those in Oregon faced after the canyon fires.  Loss of homes, loved ones, livelihoods.  Uprooted.  Everything they owned ---gone.   Jobs gone.  Vehicles gone.   Pets burned to death or missing.    I've never before in my life seen such fires or heard of them.  Until Paradise in California.  Then Oregon.   Now Colorado. Hurricane fires I call them.

They said on the news its supposed to snow tomorrow there.

Its shocking to see that on the news this evening.

Here the snow is mostly gone.  This weekend is to bring more snow to the mountains and torrents of rain here.  I'm ready for summer.  Or am I?  What will it bring?  More 116 degree days?   At least we'll have an extreme snow pack to bank on for water.  Unless......we can't count on anything anymore really.

My car's battery light began to go on today.  What in the world, I thought.  The battery is only a few months old.   I called the auto shop who installed it when they changed my starter last fall.  The guy says, your alternator is failing.  Oh gosh.  Makes sense.  I will no longer try to figure out why my headlights seem so dim.  The answer seems so obvious now, lol.

I read on older cars with few electronics you can drive many miles on just your battery charge, without the alternator recharging it.  I have a trickle charger to keep the battery fully charged.  But I need a new alternator I guess now.  It and the belt are the only parts haven't been replaced in that system.

At least I have a car and a roof over my head and that's a lot to be thankful for.

  1. I hadn't heard about the Boulder fires and my heart goes out to them. Fire storms are terrifying and so very destructive. Snow the day after is adding insult to injury.
Good luck with the alternator. I hope that it can limp along for a bit.

    1. Yeah--terrifying! But I don't think any humans were killed. They won't report animal and bird deaths.

    1. Yeah, war is another one. Britain being bombed over and over again. Other countries too, how does one live through it, number one, and number two, get over living through it.

When I heard about the fires I wondered, how come, in the middle of winter? And I still do really. Bad news about the car. They are not cheap to maintain.
