I miss my old friend. Knew her 25 years at least. She's the one who died recently, of a massive stroke.
I never heard from her family again, after they told me she was in the hospice house dying. She lived only a day. I went to see her, but they were all there, and I couldn't say a proper goodbye like that.
I want to call her up, not that she'd answer, and tell her some juicy or funny news. I want to go with her to sit by the park in her car, drink coffee and laugh at everything on earth.
On Christmas I remembered that day, early December years ago, when she insisted on going to Millersburg. Said she'd never been in Millersburg even though she'd lived in the valley most of her life. So we went. It was cold and wet and getting dark when we drove through.
The strangest thing happened. We rounded a corner way out Conser. I'd been telling her this and that, who I knew out there, where I'd trapped cats. There, in the road, laid out like she'd given up, was mother cat. Her two kittens cavorted around her. Corliss slammed on her brakes. A car behind us stopped and honked at us to move. We didn't.
We took that hopeless mom and her two babies back to my place.
I'll never forget that.
That was just one of many many experiences we had together.
R.I.P. my friend.

Of course you miss her. And what a precious memory you shared. One of many.
ReplyDeleteThanks. She was something else!
DeleteSome people leave your life and you don't really miss them. Some you really really do.
ReplyDeleteI know I sure miss her. She was so easy to be around, no judgement, just laugh and laugh.
DeleteI'm sorry that you didn't have a chance to give your friend a proper goodbye.
ReplyDeleteThanks, but maybe I just miss her, not so much the goodbye, since she was comatose.
DeleteI’m so sorry!!!
