The constant rain has turned the yard and even the concrete to a slimy ick. The algae grows and slicks up sidewalks. The yard is yucky, half mud and half ick from rotting vegetation and too much water.
I can't think of much to look forward to the next nine months. Came kind of early, all this gray and rain. Now its settled in.
I'm taking the final two quarry kittens to a Salem area woman this afternoon. They've been in my bathroom way too long--three weeks now. She said she'd take them early on after I trapped them, but has been too busy to connect until today. So today they go. The girl, Raven, tamed fast. The boy, Crow, is not a fan so far. They stood no chance at the quarry.

Raven in my lap last night. |
I had taken the third kitten, also a girl, to another woman north of Salem who quickly had her tame enough for a home. She has found a home for her with a friend of hers in Portland, so she is going to be ok, too. So all three quarry kittens are good.
There are two more kittens up there, barely born when I was getting the rest fixed. So they'll probably need homes too and the mom needs fixed. I'll get that mom fixed in December when I have a few spots again.
The bird lady is having surgery next week, fusion surgery on her back. She's fought for help medically on her back for awhile now and suddenly announced to me her surgery next Tuesday. Anyhow, she took in two more strays, shortly after the last two stray boys got into Safehaven after I took them to be fixed.
The two she has now are a short hair white with gray boy, about 8 months, and then a tabby teen, about six months, who is probably pregnant. I haven't seen them. She just described them to me. The tabby teen girl came over following a neighbor girl, who wanted bird lady to help the cat, which she immediately agreed to do, being kind like she is.
She couldn't get these last two into Safehaven. She said they wouldn't take them unless they're already fixed. I couldn't believe that. That's the biggest most well funded shelter in the area. Don't they have a vet to fix their animals? I know they have a surgery suite now, all that. I have no clue, but once a friend said she'd take them in to be fixed on her spots next Monday, now Safehaven will take them, the Friday after they're fixed. But bird lady won't be up and running that soon after back fusion surgery. She'll barely be out of the hospital. Anyhow, one way or another, they'll get fixed and to their relinquishment appointment with Safehaven.
I wouldn't think they'd also charge her the $50 per cat fee, in addition to requiring her to get them fixed. But I could be wrong. They charge a fee, to take in a cat there. I don't know if she's got some of this mixed up or maybe I do, who cares, you know, as long as it happens.
I'm happy the bird lady is getting her back fixed. She's such a positive happy person most of the time. She has a part time caregiver to help her and also a daughter who lives nearby and her sister too. So, lots of family. She should do just fine.
Last night, I was awakened by the noise of a vehicle idling. It was right outside my bedroom which is just not very far from the street. Their lights were on also. Inside were 3 or 4 people. The two in front seemed to be making out and finally all were playing on phones and I thought Fuck, they need to do that in front of their own place, two houses down, the pickup party place I call it. I shone my flashlight briefly on the vehicle to see what it was--a pickup of course. They then shone flashlights at my window. I think they were trying to take video of me watching them, but I don't know. They finally pulled out and down to the house they're attached to. Thank goodness.
Next time I'm going to pull little old lady on them, go out in my bathrobe, knock on their window, tell them I could see them were signaling for my help and offer cpr or a blankee or to call their mommies whatever they would need.....I'll take along a dirty plate of ancient cookies, too...that'll add to the whole ambience of it.
I hope her surgery goes well! And I'm sorry you're surrounded by gloom. :( Be well, my dear.
ReplyDeleteAlgae actually, and muck, from so much rain is what I'm surrounded in. Which is icky.
DeleteHooray for you and everyone else who helps.
ReplyDeleteAnd sigh at the idle idlers. I would love to see a video of the little old lady confrontation...
Idle Idlers, that's pretty good EC! I would love to see it too! Old lady confrontation with idle idlers video. I guess I'll have to confront them next time so we can all see it. Maybe. Somewhere.
DeleteSince it seems that everything is videoed these days, so they probably were trying to take your picture to post somewhere. That would bother me. I'm glad they moved on.
ReplyDeleteWell if I had been sure that's what they were doing, I would have given them something worthy of tik tokkers or whatever site they post their little videos.
DeleteHaha at your last paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI gotta have some fun in life.
DeleteIf you had a hose, you could have sprayed them lol
ReplyDeleteI sprayed the Jehovah's once, back when I lived in Corvallis. I told them to leave and they wouldn't. I told them over and over. And then I got the hose and said I'd count to five and then turn the hose on them and they stood there like cattle yawing over their religion and boom, they took off fast when the water came on them.
DeleteGee I need to come to your area. I didn't know people park anymore. I hope you friend comes out well from the operation.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
I wasn't aware young folk like to park and make out still either! I thought that left in the 70's. 80's max. I can see people sitting in a pickup playing on their phone all night long, however. Maybe I need some device that cuts electronic signal if you turn it on. I don't know if those are real though, or just on TV shows.
DeleteI'm sorry about your bad neighbors acting badly in front of your house.
ReplyDeleteI share your hatred of winter, and now comes the yearly asininity of clock changing despite Oregon having voted to end it years ago.
I hope the bird woman's fusions help, but I'm pessimistic because fusions tend to lead to more fusions.
It's beyond stupid, the clock changing. Like we can never change once we do something. I hope bird lady's fusion surgery does the job too, but fusions are much harder the older you get because for them to work you have to form new bone and that's not so easy past 60 or 70.
Delete"It's beyond stupid, the clock changing."
ReplyDeleteOregon voted to not change it, but the federal government has to give its approval, and it hasn't done so.
