The Sky River

We went through our atmospheric sky river event.  Some places on the coast got 5 inches of rain.  We didn't get that much here, maybe a couple inches, I don't know.  I think Detroit, the town destroyed by wildfire northeast of here got four inches almost, which is an astounding amount of rain for 24 hours.  At least in Oregon.  Not the normal rain events of yesteryear, lol (old folk talk).  Yesteryear.   I like to use words like that when in the presence of younger people I want to irritate.

There were some slides and a little flooding, on the coast and down on the usual slide highway--138.  How many times in years gone past (old folk talk again, wow I"m on a roll) have I had to turn around due to slides on that road?   Or be anxiously glancing upward while driving it thinking any moment somethings coming down on me.  Big huge rocks or big huge trees, take your pick.

So anyhow, I get messaged by KKR, a local rescue, the only one left I think, they have some spay neuter spots or one of their volunteers does or something like that, it wasn't clear to me, but can I trap for those spots.  Ok, sure no problem.  I have nothing else going on.  It made me excited.   What else can one do on a gloomy rainy Friday?   I caught five and then handed them off to a driver lady this morning.

Here are the five getting fixed.  Unfortunately, I did not receive paperwork for them, went to the person with the reservations, so I don't even get to know their sexes or if they were wormed or not (I worm them here if they didn't get it at the clinic).  But they're fixed and I don't really need to know any of those things, am just interested.

Oh and yesterday Viv came back down with the two strays the bird lady had taken in.  They were by now fixed and there was the relinquishment appointment to hand them over to the large shelter.   We asked them if it was true they had to be fixed before they'd take them.  Yes it was true.  They also charged $50 per cat to take them in.  Yikes.  I then called teh bird lady to tell her the cats were now at Safehaven.  I hadn't talked to her since we picked up the cats, thinking she'd be in a lot of pain after back surgery and all.  But no, she hadn't even had back surgery.  Seems she was all set for last Tuesday and then it got cancelled because her insurance hadn't approved it.  Crap, I thought.   I bet its an age thing, like she's almost 80 and the insurance people are hoping she dies soon instead of having a surgery to pay for.  Fuck heartless insurance companies.  See ya all in hell!

Boy what an attitude I've developed.

The Portland Trail Blazers (NBA team)  have been in the news for all the wrong reasons.  Seems some high up in their organization is under investigation for treating people with extreme disrespect.   I saw this quote in an article about it and nearly choked reading it.  The "Chris" referred to is someone in the finance department who just resigned (quit).  The "Jody" referred to is the owner.    "Said one team source: “Good for Chris. It’s tough to stick around when you don’t share the values of the organization and it got worse when Jody arrived. It’s just a bunch of bad people treating good people really bad.”

Tell it like it is why don't you. Ok.

  1. We had rain, and will have more. No flooding here though other places are in danger.
Sadly that article is true of far too many businesses where profit is king.
I am glad that you found some spots so that those cats lives can be improved.
And don't get me started on insurers...

    1. I didn't realize til I saw your Sunday Selections that you were having so much rain. Its good you're not flooding near you. I suspect you're right that some of these big money businesses are overloaded in perverse and bad people behaving really terribly to good people. I don't know why I began reading about a basketball team's ownership and management issues. I guess it seems like a soap opera. I don't care at all about sports. Lately the stories have been very disturbing. From body shaming to abuse of all kinds, in sports of all kinds. Just say no, to organized sports.

  2. Good news for the five rescues (well done!) but bad on the human front. Healthcare and insurance seem like very regional issues. :( It's cold and dreary here, but makes our home feel that much more cheery. :) Terra and Polly, by the way, are about 13 months old. Thanks for the tip about teething but it seems like they were taken from mom too soon. Or she passed away. We don't know. I'm just so thankful someone took them in and they're here now. A Lexington, Kentucky group got them fixed and sent them to the Gemy City Catfe in Dayton. Be well, my dear.

  4. That sounds like a good arrangement. You trap the cats and someone else takes them to get done what they need. Is that something you could do regularly?

    2. I was a little surprised and a little horrified when meeting her early early Saturday morning. She had never transported cats in traps and had a brand new electric fancy dandy car, very expensive. An SUV of some kind. She did not even have a tarp for the back, so I started giving her pee pads to go under the traps but the other lady had a tarp in her suv and gave her that to put down first, then the sheet, then cardboard the other lady also had, then finally the pee pads. Hopefully her car stayed pristine, as it was out of the box new. It doesn't smell like my car smells, but it will if she does transport. She didn't know.

  5. I don't know what I would do if every cat suddenly disappeared from the earth. In different ways to be sure, you and I are addicts. I don't know how I ever survived without cats. I don't even know how I survived without my youngest, who was only born two years ago.

Are the Blazers ever in the news for the right reasons. I don't know, but then I don't follow basketball.

7 Cat Day

I got the 7 cats in to be fixed in Corvallis yesterday. I originally was to take the black and white cat the feeder lady got on Berlin road...
