I took six cats up to be fixed in Salem today.
I did end up with both cats from the Sweet Home River Road location. Both are black.
I don't know the sexes of either of them yet. Not til I pick them up and see their paperwork. I wasn't going to check myself, lol, as they were none to happy.
ABK (stands for "Another Black Kitty") is being fixed today
She calls this one Baby Blue Eye as he or she lost vision in one eye as a kitten
I went clear down to between Brownsville and Shedd last night, after a brief time with the rabbit, who came within a couple feet of me, and was happy last night, even playful and seemed to be showing off to me. I had my net along and should have just caught him. But he's a large rabbit and I was several hundred feet from my car, where the carrier was. I wasn't sure the net would contain him, as its old and homemade. Next time I'll just give it my best attempt. But the KATA lady and her daughter who want him say they'll handle catching said rabbit over the weekend. Ok. But if they don't catch the poor little guy, I will sure try.
In Shedd, I picked up Oreo, a small long hair black tux girl, who came with the property, when they moved in. Gradually she moved out of the berry vines to their porch and decided to be tame again. I guess she was left by previous occupants. She's had three litters since last April. No more for you Oreo.
Oreo, from Shedd, will finally get spayed
Then the Millersburg woman who trapped her neighbors colony brought over the second kitten her folks took in from those she nabbed and tamed. Her brother, fixed awhile back, is so gorgeous, a chocolate brown Siamese mix with very fine features. Well....his sister has the same fine features and is just sleek and gorgeous! This is Binx.
Binx is being spayed today.
The last two I took up, and I originally had only five appointments but was gifted another, are a brother and sister from S. Albany. The couple trapped their wild mom, Mama Tubs, a few weeks back and I took her to be fixed. But now come her four teenagers. First two get fixed today.
They named this teen Dopey, a muted calico.
This is Tweek, the only boy of the four teens.
Felt nice to get back to the business of cat roundups. I have three more weeks with Friday reservations, five each Friday. Then what? I never know these days.
Our Covid vaccination program in the state is I think near the bottom in the nation. It's extremely frustrating. You just wonder what they were actually doing when they claimed to be preparing a vaccination delivery plan of action months ago, before the vaccines were even out or approved. Not much I don't think. They are excellent and well practised with excuses. Oregon has vaccinated only about 70k people thus far. I think we've had the vaccines three or four weeks now. At that rate....well I won't hold my breath. It's extremely discouraging, I'll just say. Here we have this solution, to get things back to normal, and you think that would be the highest priority on earth, to get those vaccines into everyone possible. It's just dismal and depressing.
Binx reminds me of our M'lady, a black cat whose pedigreed Siamese mother escaped at just the wrong time. I miss her still.
ReplyDeleteSadly I am not surprised that your vaccination program is not running smoothly. I do hope it is sorted out quickly.
The brother and sister, with the sleek physiques and Siamese shaped heads (the brother also has Siamese markings), had a tabby mom, who had pumped out a zillion kittens, the caretaker's neighbor told me, before she was caught and fixed.
DeleteOur county's vaccine program is going very well although it's just a drop in the bucket as far as getting the numbers needed. Unfortunately, I will be at the bottom of the list as far as priority of getting it. Who knows when that will be.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear that the bunny already has a home--or as soon as he's caught.
I was kicked clear of rabbit duty, since the KATA lady found a proper rabbit rescuer, to help. But I don't think they have caught him or her yet. Oregon Health Authority made news again, stating public vaccination would not start til fall. But then the governor over rode him, and called in the National Guard and the National Guard man on TV last night was my kind of guy and said to ignore the predictions of no general public vaccination til fall, and said if we have vaccines, it will get done. My hope immediately surged to hear his can do attitude! And so did state vaccinations, with almost 14k being given in two days, or so.
DeleteWell done yet again, my dear. Thank you for working so hard despite all the difficulties.
ReplyDeleteThank you Darla, I'm doing my best, but get so few reservations these days. I still have half that donation by the grass seed farmer on ice, just waiting for the clinic to open to public community cat spay neuter, so it can again go to pay for our county cats to be fixed when taken in by their own caretakers. 200 cats were fixed in 8 months that way last year, before Covid shut it all down in March. I never saw those cats but HCC paid for them to be fixed, all with no miles put on my little car or on my old body. I so much want that program to begin again. But the clnic is still only doing cats brought in by known trappers/nonprofits.
DeleteOne of my sister's cats is named Oreo. It is disappointing about the slowness of vaccinations but I am sure it is not helped by the general chaos of the last month.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure, Andrew, and I'm hoping there is no more chaos during the inauguration although various militias are allegedly calling for violence on January 20. I don't know how we got this way. I've lost a good share of my friends to the mental illness that is Qanon. So many have fallen into that deep dark hole around here. There's no way to even talk to them anymore. I miss them, but what is there that one can do? People I never thought would fall for such things.
