Five Kitties Fixed Today

I went to the lake yesterday.  It's still full.  Abnormal for this time of year.

Usually after labor day, the corp of engineers nearly drains the reservoirs, til the boat ramps are high and dry and there's no more fun on the lake to be had.  Not this year.

I don't know about Detroit reservoir, that the fire roared around a few weeks ago.  They were trying to get the boats left moored on the lake out before lowering the level.  I saw a news story where the in charge people were wondering if the dams were safe along the fire route, or if debris flow would threaten them, as slides occur this winter, in fire ravaged slopes that no longer can hold mud and rock in place because all the trees are gone.

The President has corona virus.  Hardly a surprise.  He practises no preventive measures.  Mild case, they say.  Who knows.  Truth is among the missing currently in America.

So I went to the lake yesterday.  My knee is good right now.  I had that injection Tuesday and no problems since then.  I realize it may just be the anesthetic still, that went in with the cortisone, but I'm loving it.  I'm being careful.

A friend came from Lebanon with her pickup.  She doesn't have any money.  Or gas.  So I gave her gas money and we drove up to the lake.  I just gave her $20 and we went to the Mobil station in Lebanon and I heard her tell the attendant $20 regular, then he comes and says "It took $40".  She yelled at him and I was shocked, because what now.  Finally I dug out $20 more and handed it over.  She was embarrassed.  It was his fault and that was messed up.

So that was the money for lunch, although I intended to only spend $10 max at lunch somewhere, for both of us.  She doesn't even have a phone right now either.  No money is the reason.

So we drove on up to the lake.  My kayak fit perfectly into the back of her pickup.  I threw in the inner tube too for her.  It was mostly fisher people on the lake.  I was tired and tried again to nap out on my kayak like I can do on my raft but I couldn't.  I let her take the kayak out too. She had been floating around on the inner tube. She gets seasick from the rocking of it though, even the tube makes her a little seasick.  It was a nice day.  I loved every minute out on the lake.

The Millersburg woman caught five cats during the day at her neighbors place.  I didn't have to lift a finger.  She came to my place with the five cats about 8 last night and we loaded them into the back of the car.  That was that.  I took off with them this morning to the clinic and will pick them up later.

At the lake when we were leaving another older woman with a kayak was just leaving.  She had a kayak cart, two wheeled.  I asked her how that worked out.  She said she didn't like to use it but would bring it along in case she had to use the steep boat ramps, like when there's no parking places at the one we were at.  Somehow we talked about getting older and knees and I mentioned I'd popped my knee right at this ramp a few weeks back.  She asked what I did to it.  I said I tore the meniscus.  She said, in awe, "You still have meniscus?"  She has one metal knee and one that needs replaced.

I walked away thinking "I'm very lucky."

I am 65 and still have meniscus left in both knees.

  2. It sounds as if you had a good day. About time. Huge sigh at the fuel attendant though. I think I would have yelled and cursed too.
I hope you get a whole lot more pain free days. And more help.

    1. It's a pain always, if you pay cash, wondering if the attendant is wide awake enough to see the amount handed him or her, so you get the right amount of gas or change. I wish we could just pump our own here.

Maybe your last boating day for the season, so it is good that it went well.

  4. I'm so glad you enjoyed your outing and are both feeling better and being careful. ~hugs~ It shocked me that attendants still pump gasoline there. That's interesting. Ohio has nothing but self serve pumps. Best wishes to you, your friend, and those sweet kitties!

    1. I don't know why we have to let attendants pump our gas here either. Might be to keep jobs, don't know. During the covid shutdown of March, April and May, we got to pump our own. Was a lot quicker and more convenient.

  5. I am like your friend and get seasick very easily. I wouldn't have liked the bobbing up an down either. I'm sure she very much appreciated your kindness of the outing and the gas.

    1. We had a good time. I love the bobbing and rocking of a boat on water. Puts me to sleep. The raft was easy to sleep in and I liked taking a nap out with the water rocking me back and forth. Not so easy on the kayak though.
