And for what has google exchanged Picasa? The miserable Google Photos. Edits offered there are like what a four year old might doodle. I'm resentful and angry. Everything was going so fine, with my photo hobby and Picasa.
It's like having your experienced kind and competent doctor leave town, leaving you with some pimple faced 20 year old who once changed adult diapers in a nursing home. He's going to be your new "primary care".
Google you bad bad huge giant rich ass out of touch corporation!
I know I'm typing on blogger, which you bought and own too. You haven't yet ruined it or charged a zillion bucks to use it but I bet you do soon.
I use Picasa for uploading my cat photos, to try to get them seen and get donations for my little nonprofit. Yes, I'm in outrage mode. I have LOVED Picasa. But google, you don't know me. You see me as dollars that can line your pockets (aren't you rich enough) and I saw you, after you bought Picasa, with a skeptical eye, and as a snake that I hoped would be friendly, not dripping poison, just waiting there in the grass or under a rock.
Last night I notice my photos aren't automatically getting added to Picasa. Something was up. I stumbled onto the articles about Google dumping Picasa, although it will still remain, no more updates and by May 1, certain features will get disabled. Probably all those useful nice features.
The irony? I live in Oregon and google has its data farms spread all over eastern Oregon. They get nice fat tax breaks for locating out there. So they can screw the little people by losing Picasa. That's how I feel.
In other news, 3 kitties were fixed today. I uploaded photos of the cats, then saw they did not upload to Picasa where I could manipulate and store them. I manually added two, one at a time, before my rising blood pressure sent me in search of why this suddenly was. Darn google anyhow.
Halo from Lebanon fixed today |
Fletcher from the Geary st colony area, a porch cat |
Kato, a Sweet Home kitten |
Like they care.
Hiss and spit.
ReplyDeleteI have never used Picasa, but I so understand the anxt of losing something which worked, and having it replaced with something which doesn't.
Yay for the cats though. And their much better lives ahead.
Two of the boys are still in the garage. Can be stinky.
DeleteHip, hip hurray for the cats, but damn Google (and other services) who continually 'fix' things that aren't broken.
ReplyDeletePicasa is great. I wondered when it would get ruined by google or closed for something as lousy as google photos.
DeleteI used Picasa, too, and my photos haven't been uploading since the beginning of the year. It's been very frustrating. My camera software has rudimentary editing, but I've been looking around for something better. Right now, I'm doing a free trial of PicMonkey to see what it's like. After thirty days, it costs $4.99/month. Don't have much to say about it yet. This posts reminds me that I need to spend some time with it to see if I like it.
ReplyDeleteI need to find something user friendly. Most programs are not user friendly. Picasa is so easy, for editing. My facebook page A Home for Slinko---will die. Every week I post an artful photo of Slinko, created on Picasa.
DeleteI, too, use Picasa.... don't know how much the changes will affect me yet. I'm with you... why change something that works? Bummer!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what features they will disable May 1.
DeleteIf you do some research I bet you can find another site that's as good as, or better than, Picasa. Happy Hunting.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it Kathy. Picasa is so user friendly and easy. Most of the freeware photo manipulation sites don't allow storage, for one, but require weeks of study to figure out how to do basic things.
DeleteWow! I hadn't realized this rotten change was occurring. Just today I uploaded two photos to Picassa. Bummer. Well done for the kitties! And as for Picassa, I'll let you know if I can find anything useful for us.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
While I don't use either, I was aware of this change but I did not know what was being offered by Google Photos was inferior. That is very poor.
ReplyDeletePlease let us know if you find another "good" cloud photo solution. I have over 2,000 albums in my Picasa account, and frequently update them. This was easy in Picasa, but nearly impossible in Google photos. I'm looking for another Cloud solution. If I don't find one I'll have to store my photos on my Plex server, and back them up myself. :( I miss Picasa!!!!
