The Planets are in Align

I went out into my yard this evening and saw this:

As if the fire blob in the sky the other night was not enough.

Now Venus and Jupiter are conjunctering.  Or something.  Moving in on each other.  Won't happen again for a really long time, so step out and take a look just after dark.  Look west to northwest.

In other news, Civic Stadium, an iconic baseball arena in Eugene, built in 1938, went up in flames this afternoon.  I never attended a game there, but everyone in Oregon knows about Civic Stadium and it makes me think Field of Dreams.  Always.  Now its history, gone baby gone.

  1. Deliberately lit? The big fires so often are.
Way too cloudy to see anything aligning over here.

    1. Cause not yet determined. However, a group had recently purchased the stadium, intent on preserving it. It's possible work had been done and sometimes that can lead to a fire. Our weather here is so abnormally hot and dry. Fire danger is out of this world right now. Tiny sparks, like from a lawnmower, can lead to destruction if that spark lands in something ready to go.

  2. Dreadful when things go up in flames, as you say history gone....

  3. That's an interesting texture to your sky pictures. How did you do that?

    1. In Picassa, I used "fill light" to lighten the photo, so the tree outline would show.

    2. I store my photos in the free program Picasa online. You can manipulate them in Picasa, as they have all sorts of editing possibilities. But to resize them, I have to open them in another free program---Irfanview. And to further edit, like filling in by paintbrush flashed out eyes, I use yet another free program---GIMP, which is an excellent free photo edit program.

    3. I love the availability of free programs online. I use Libre Office as a replacement for Word, which I cannot afford and Libre has an imitation spreadsheet program that mimics Excel. So I keep all my cat fixing records on Libre office's spreadsheet program. But its free. Unlike Excel.

    4. I too use Picasa and Libre Office. I also use the program that came with my camera for editing photos. Both of them are pretty basic, but it would be interesting to spend a little time and see what they actually can do.
