Sneaking in Some Cats

The A to Z Challenge has left this blog dry of cat photos.

Mostly.

I'm here to end the drought right now.

With Cats of Course.

I will begin and end with the ancients.  Like Vision above, almost 21 years of age now.  This photo was taken a month ago.  Her bad eye is recovered from the bang job it got when she fell off the cat run last August.  However, it chronically inflames now for a different reason.  It's slightly sunken, so her hair eyelash fur turns in enough to brush the eye from the bottom, creating inflammation.   I keep it cleaned out daily, but the only thing to stop that permanently would be surgery to flip out the skin below the eye.  And she can't tolerate anesthesia at this point.  We do our best.

Poppy, one of my toothless wonder kitties, loves to sleep in the trap converted to bed.

Let's get quirky with the Quirky sisters, Echo, above, and Fantasia, below.  They are not so quirky anymore, and a friend of mine says she may consider adopting Fantasia, who follows her around here like a dog, once her elderly cat is gone.  Wouldn't that be nice, for me and for her?

And Echo, once insecure since she could not make friends, now has many friends, including Deaf Miss D, Slurpy and Starry.

Although Slinko came out as tame, after I trapped him along with 12 others at some Albany apartments, the other two cats who remain here from that situation, Molly and Gidget, are still not so tame.  Gidget prefers the garage room and cat yard, while Molly likes the house and many of the cats in the house.  She gets along with everyone.

Molly is likely related to Captain Kirk, whom I trapped to be fixed across the street recently from the apartments where Molly came from.  Captain Kirk was returned and is fed by at least two households.
Sassy of the Albany Business Nine

Sassy, of the Albany Business cats always has a worried look to her eyes.  She is the only one of those 9 cats who has yet to have her teeth cleaned and bad teeth pulled.  But that will happen for her on May 23.

Meanwhile, two other cats, likely Buffy and Chessie or Honey, will have their teeth checked out this coming Monday.  We're getting there, on getting all the cats vet dental care.   It's a chronic challenge.  I don't take in more cats but I am determined to care for those here properly until they pass on.  If you would like to help, check out the 12 cat dental fundraiser, on the sidebar at the top right.  If you click it, you'll go to the fundraiser page where you can donate or share at least.  Thank you!

Cougie in the Sun
I said we would begin and end with the ancients.  So here's my other ancient buddy, with one of her best buddies. You know who!

And if you think Miss D isn't a bit twisted, check this out!

My odd and twisted baby!

  1. I've been thinking that I need some more cat photos also. I'll have to see what letter I can attach them to. Miss D looks just like my Lucy.

    1. Miss Daisy is a character, wakes me every morning way too early, in violent fashion if need be. She's completely deaf and now somewhere near 15 years of age, perhaps older, no one knows, really.

  3. Beautiful kiddies. I had a cat Biscuit, who looks like Sassy. He is about 18 years old now. Yea, I know old for a cat. He lives with my ex. I miss Biscuit so much sometimes but I got the child and ex got the cat :)

  4. Sounds like Biscuit has had a decent life at least, being 18, and you got to raise your child, which is difficult but rewarding for the long run.

  5. I have a question: Beau's leg just isn't up to snuff anymore and his walks with daddy had to stop. Next up is either cataract surgery (down here? I hope it goes better than his leg surgery!) but he also needs his teeth cleaned. Both call for anesthesia, and I don't know which I should do first.....or never.

    1. Teeth cleaning, with any extractions needed, is very important. At least in cats, bad teeth are directly related to kidney and heart issues. I'd go with the dental surgery. You might try yelp to check out reviews on vets. I've had some very bad experiences in searching out dental care, including going to vets who claim they did the work but didn't, or broke teeth off and left the roots. You're looking for a vet with a hand held Xray and high speed water cooled drill, to split teeth needing extracted, to avoid undo torque on the jaw. Ask, if they have that equipment and see if you can get reviews online or a recommendation maybe from a local dog rescue.

    2. Also, due to his history, pre dental antibiotics, that you start before the dental, may be valid.

  6. Sassy looks just like our Willie cat we used to have! You have such an amazing hear, Strayer, doing all this for the kitties!

    1. Sassy is a sweetie, technically feral, but wants to be a tame girl, as many here do. I just let them be whomever they want to be, and they are fantastically happy. So am I, to have found love with cats, is better than not having love at all. My neighbors think I am nuts, but that's ok.
