Blue Cross Blue Shield Hike Rates Almost 15%

Blue Cross and Blue Shield just were granted a rate hike of nearly %15. This is after hiking their rate by 26% last year. They claim it's because of the rising cost of health care, which they blame on increases in chronic disease, mandated coverage items, and the cost of new diagnostic machines and tests. Quote below from suffering insurance payer:

"Edda Sigurdar, who runs her own hair salon in Beaverton, said she is now paying $683 a month for health insurance at a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult to get an appointment with a doctor."

Who can afford such a premium every month, I wonder. Add in a mortgage or rent, car insurance, car payment and costs of utilities, food and gas, boy I'd ask again. Who in the world could afford such a premium?
