The Burning Van

I got an e-mail from Fran of Canine Homefinders with a photo of her former van, now a burned out shell. In the e-mail she sent out to everyone, she described the events as follows.

She had loaded four dogs in her van and was headed to Petco where they were having a shot clinic. A couple miles from her place, the dash began to smoke. The smoke became more intense. There was no place on the two lane road to pull over safely and take dogs out, so she quickly turned around and headed back to her place. She wanted to get the dogs out safely and there was no place along this highly travelled road that also is home to a lot of speeding cars.

She said the smoke was by then black and thick and she had to open windows so she could breath and see. Somehow she made it back and pulled in beside her place, got the two big dogs into a kennel and was just able to get the two small dogs over the fence and grab one other item from her van before the fire and intense heat made further rescue of material things in the van impossible.

I think she and those dogs are lucky to be alive. Sounds like she remained very calm in a frightening situation.
