I am really tired of doing adoptions. I had such high hopes for the one, and then to find out the house doesn't even have garbage service and is not suitable for cats to be outside, due no cover, not even a fenced yard. Someone I know up there went to try to meet her.
I was fairly devastated. I envisioned her place would be really well kept, for some reason, not with garbage bags piled around it.
Because there are so many places piled in garbage, either outside or inside, in Linn County, I added the question to my adoption form. But I guess it might require a subjective answer. It's terrible to have to put such a question on a form.
I got one contact off a craigslist post but I couldn't tell what that woman wanted. First it was two cats, then one, then she had to ask her husband who said only one short hair female. She has two dogs and was set on Buffy. I told her Buffy is virtually feral, although I didn't say "feral" I said "shy". She certainly cannot adopt out as a single house cat. Buffy would be terrified and utterly alone, would hide, hiss and likely run away if let out.
Then she wanted either Tweetie or Button. Same thing there. I had suggested Tugs, who would do just fine alone, if she could acclimate her to the dogs. First I had suggested Matilda, who would have been perfect. But she didn't want Matilda and not Tugs either. When I tell her it wouldn't work for either Buffy or Tweetie, she blasts me as too picky. She said if I think two need to go together, then people will just dump the one they don't want, so they can't get the one they want. I was shocked at such a reply. She must know people who would do this.
These two, both from Linn County, are the only adoption interest contacts I've had in weeks. Sad, it is. Sure I"m slightly worried. I can't afford to feed, flea treat, worm, vaccinate, have cat litter for all these very long. I"ve never had this many before. I never wanted to do rescue, because of the expense involved and because it's constant cleaning and work, taking me away from my real mission, rounding up cats to be fixed, which is far more effective at helping cats.
I got side tracked into rescue, way laid you might say, when I moved to Albany, where every block has desperate strays roaming without anybody. That was a fateful move. Oh boy was it ever fateful.
I am picky. I don't rescue these cats to make sure they end up somewhere I know isn't suited to them. That'd be dumbshit for sure. And mean.
Buffy would not have been happy there alone and neither would either of the sisters. And also, the woman wouldn't have been happy with either choice. I bet she would have liked Tugs though.
I'm going to remove the craigslist ads for now. I need to be heavily medicated or comatose before I deal with anymore contacts off craigslist. I'm kidding there. I've gotten some great homes off craigslist ads. It's just more work is all, to weed through all those other responses.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
