I stopped by the Jefferson Pink House colony this evening, after picking up the Heatherdale female and Albany male. I wanted to try to catch that Blue Point male. Instead, I saw a desperately hungry very pregnant black female, with part of her tail missing, last inch of it skinned. I put her in the one trap I had.
Then I saw yet another shaggier black tabby male, about a year old, not fixed either. I knocked on the door and the familiar female "Come on in" yell followed. In I went.
I told her I'd put another cat in my car and I thought she'd said that was all there were, the twelve I already took in to be fixed, except for the Blue Point.
"No," she said "I think there are two or three more, like that long hair orange female, been around here a long time. That cat in your car, she lost her tail when the camper door got slammed on it. Took it about five days, maybe seven, to fall off. And we don't want the Blue Point fixed. That's my brothers cat, you see. He once took in a teensy purebred shepherd pup that was only this big," and she makes a space of about four inches between her thumb and forefinger, to show how little the German Shepherd pup was. "He kept it in his shirt pocket." I nod. I've heard this tale twice already. I'm numbed to the lies now.
I say "So what are you saying, that your brother is responsible and will get the cat fixed or keep him inside if he doesn't get him fixed, because with ownership comes responsibility."
She changes the subject and I think to myself "oh, we can't have that four letter word "responsibility" be heard around here. It's a dirty word in these parts!" That's what I thought to myself.
Off I went with this latest Pink House poor poor female.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
