Disappointment

Sam didn't get a home. He wasn't on his best behavior, because I'd confined him to the bedroom. The woman was very nice, but said they wanted a less active quieter male cat. Sam is young, between a year and two years. He likes to play wildly and he was in a playful mood. So I guess he wasn't a match.

I was terribly disappointed, however, because it is very hard to find cats homes, let alone good homes with loving responsible people and this was a good home option.

I get almost no adoption contacts. To lose this home for Sam, well, it was a huge disappointment.

These cats here need to see more people. We dont' get any visitors here at all, so they don't see a soul but me. I don't know how to change that. I am lousy at finding cats homes these days. I am limiting what trapping I do now, because I do not want to find myself in situations where I find a cat who needs help and taken in to get that help.

I am overloaded with no real hope in sight of finding any of these cats here homes. Try taking care of 25 cats on almost no money. Try just doing that sort of work everyday, because these aren't outside strays you just put food down for.

I don't even know how many I have here now. That sucks: The Lebanon four: Matilda, Little Matilda, Mums and Tugs--All Girls! I have the two Millersburg cats, Sam and Oci. I have two of the three abandoned at the Scravel Hill cemetery, Spirit and Angel. I have Doc, Mops and Buffy, from the BS colony, and also Shady from the BS colony. I have Brambles from the HTN colony, Mooki from a colony on Spicer, Slurpy, Soda and Poppy, from the 34th street complex, Cattyhop, from just off highway 20 at 226 and Comet from Heatherdale Trailer Park, too. I have Panda and Solomon from Lebanon and Gretal from Highway 34 across from SafeHaven. I have the functionally blind Stinod, from Grand Prairie. I have my own four: Electra, Vision, Miss Daisy and Dex.

27 cats here. YIKES!

but...you don'[t have the bottle babes...good - and you will be getting the next shipment of cat food fancy feast cans in a few days - of course, with 27 cats, that equals about 2 cans each I know - but i'm sure it helps. I am surprised that the woman didn't chose another cat - you have such a variety there - i'm sure some were a little "calmer" than Sam. what about your newsletter - haven't seen it in a bit - does that ever help? Are you allowed to put up signs in places such as hospitals, medical centers, etc.? (just trying to think of places with good people) - I am shocked when i look at that petfinder contest each day and see just how many places there are in oregon that take in dogs and cats and are looking for homes - many have stopped taking in newbies because of a lack of adoptive homes.
How much would another newspaper ad run? If not this month, I could possibly send you the money next month to run an ad....just tell me how much.

  2. The state has let the cat and dog populations get out of hand for a very long time, is why there is an incredible need here.

On the other hand, it's quite beautiful that so many people, mostly just individuals, without any real help, are trying to help the hordes of unwanted unfixed animals.

The 4th

Happy the 4th is over.   It's the fireworks.   They terrify some of my cats.  Not the old deaf ones.   Gigi hid under the cat stairs in...
