Protesting is protected by freedom of speech. But not if laws are broken and property damaged. The people planning to protest at the DNC are already complaining about the jail set up to house them. In other words, they must be planning to break the law and be arrested before even going.
I suppose my view of protesting has changed somewhat. I see it more as a social get together. The more violent protests where the property of others is destroyed I see as gang activity perpetrated by spoiled brats who consider their agenda so important they will destroy the property of others. This is violence.
I wish the protesters, instead of creating division, would create solutions, not by demanding others create solutions for change, but by creating those solutions themselves. Protesters demand certain changes but often do nothing to create such change with hard work on their part. In other words, it's an entitlement demand "You change things because we demand it."
Change requires tremendous work and money output. I think protestors should be part of the hard work, instead of raging in the streets or holding signs. Maybe some are involved in creating solutions rather than just yelling "We want this" or "We want that". It's getting old to see this. What I'd like to see is all those going to the DNC to protest, to instead form groups to solve the problems they are against and presenting those creative solutions and means to implement, at the convention.
I know it's not as glorious as yelling slogans together and waving fists angrily and battling police and then being outraged over conditions at the makeshift jail. But it might be helpful.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
