Remember China? The Cat the Albany Police Threatened to Arrest Me Over?

Well, he's resurfaced, apparently abandoned by that woman who claimed that other neighbor trapped him, when extremely injured with the skin torn off his throat, without her permission, and that I then transported him to the vet for care without her permission. The Albany police called and threatened to arrest me, citing as evidence that I knew he was owned a post on craigslist trying to get funds to pay for care for China and that horrible injury. The woman went to retrieve him from my vets' office, with the cops help, embarrassing me further. Then she went around ranting in the neighborhood, with China, who was still under anesthesia, claiming the neighbor who trapped him had actually broken into her house and "stolen" him.

Actually the neighbor, with witnesses, had long before secured this collector's permission to trap any of her cats that showed on her doorstep and get them fixed and vet care. The cops did not have all the information. As a result of this incident, which occurred right after I moved here, the neighbor got no more cats fixed on that street and I won't either.

But China has now resurfaced and is living in the backyard of an older woman on same street along with three other strays, all three likely the result of that collector.

She described the all gray male with a big red inflamed hairless area on his neck. So China has never healed up properly. I told her the story, of what happened, and told her I shy away from that street like the plague. I told her she could always call the Albany police, since it's on record she claimed ownership of that cat and if she's not caring for him, they should finally charge her with neglect or abandonment, because for gosh sake, she had a zillion cats, all unfixed and her place was lined in cat feces. And the pain that China went through, due to her neglect, was incredible. The police, after harrassing the wrong people, should now charge the right person.

As for these four strays, I can't take them in. I can't take them all in for these Albany residents who do not fix their pets. This old woman is very nice, and cannot understand the mentality in Albany towards animals at all. I said "That's why I want out of here. I never sleep anymore. The calls are endless and nobody donates around here or helps. It's the mentality to blame, the ingrained attitudes and lack of respect for life."

I told her to try SafeHaven. Savehaven is familiar with the Lyons street collector. Christiana of SafeHaven, thank you so much Christiana, is the one who was instrumental in getting the cops to back off, when they were at my throat for trying to help China.
