10,000 Cat Campaign

I was going nowhere with the nonprofit.   Ghostlike in the vast sea of people begging for money for causes.  Invisible even here in this small area.

Then I came up with the big idea-Fix 10,000 cats.  Not like I haven't done it before, when I had Poppa funds to pay for fixes.  Took about ten years, got a couple hundred over 10,000 in to be fixed.  Not like I haven't stopped either since hitting the 10k mark.

I have been dismayed the last months too by the exclusion some of the rescue groups dole out to others, like being shunned if you don't say the right words in church.  Rescue is vicious.  Full of cliques. I just have to accept that. Most work places are full of drama.  So what.

Fundraising becomes a popularity contest.  I hate it!   But you can't operate on nothing.

Today I was so discouraged I decided to close the nonprofit.  I have not found a way out of the shadows around these parts.

Not that I want out of the shadows. I am uncomfortable with daylight or any publicity.  I'd like to just do my thing (get a bunch of cats fixed) then go swim in the lake for fun or read a book on my bed with my cats.

But...being invisible apparently, as a nonprofit and a person, and a natural born loner anyway, makes it nearly impossible to raise funds. You gotta be happy faced visible and cheery and super sweet when your hemorrhoids are all swollen from driving in a car with a worn out metal protruding seat.  Or you've got negative ten cents in the bank and have not eaten in two days, plus your car's gas tank has been running on the yellow "out of gas" for 30 miles and you're still 15 miles from home.

You got to be that kind of delusionally wonderful. Your personality is judged by people who don't even know you, not what you do.  That's not me.

I am not friends with any local rescue people.  I tried for years.  Nothing ever came of it.  I gave up.  Big deal.  I'm different.

After moping around, thinking I should probably just toss it in, live my life, enjoy my own cats, I thought 'what the heck'.  Why not go big with my plans.   Get 10,000 cats fixed, then I'll quit, if I'm not dead by then.

Round em up, get em fixed.   Why not?   I couldn't think of one reason not to set that goal.

You can quit, after fixing 10,000 more cats, I can tell myself.  Count them down, get it done.  Methodically.

I can't say then I didn't go for it big time, not piddle around and about the overpopulation problem, same old same old.   That's not me.

I am a goal oriented person.  I like to work towards something.  I love to work towards something others think is impossible and stupid.

So, the 10,000 cat fixing campaign is off and running.

It makes me happy to think about doing it.

Off we go.

  1. Bless you in this endeavor. I never imagined nonprofit organizations would have clique mentality and lack the iron will to deal with many of the tribulations you have shared in dealing with humans. And I'm sure I've thus far read only a fraction! Be well and take care of yourself.

    1. Well, it does happen--drama, manipulation, all kinds of difficult things I am not well equipped to deal with. Today, I got a couple texts from someone in another organization and thought "wow, this is nice" but I also was thinking she never texts me, she wants something from me. Sure enough. I had to say no. I knew I was probably getting texts for that reason, yet when it turned to her wanting something huge from me, I was taken back, shocked again. I should expect it but I never do.

  3. Wow, that's a big goal. But if I've learned anything about you here, it's that you are one determined person and can do anything you set your mind to. Good luck.

  4. So if your goal is to fix 10,00 cats why not have your donate page have an amount listed for each fix?

    1. Good idea. Except the price varies depending on where I get it done. I could give a raw figure though, an average.

    2. I just changed my www.bluestray.org donation page to your suggestion. What do you think? It's a great idea.

  5. I find it confusing to have this site and then the Happy Cat Club when I want to donate-probably just me but maybe if you made the link to The happy Cat Club donation site more explainatory it would help.

It would be great to have your 10,000 cat fund raiser linked to a lot of sites but I'm not sure how to make that happen. It is a catchy name though and that would help.

    1. This site is more like my personal blog, created long before I formed the Happy Cat Club. I can probably make it less confusing with an explanation under the blog title perhaps.

    2. I changed the blog description and also added a title to the "Donate" button, on upper right and to the Happy Cat Club website link. I hope this makes it less confusing. Always good to hear feed back. Thanks.
