The Cat Hater who Wants to Kill Zeva

I have had trouble here, on this block.  There are not cat lovers here.  Quite the opposite.  Jack liked cats but Jack is dead.

Awhile back some guy came by, to look at Jack's house.   We chatted briefly before I really backed off thinking he might not be someone I wanted to know.  I'd already told him I liked cats.   That was over a year ago.

He rings my doorbell tonight.   He acts friendly and asks about Jack's house and all, being empty and I think maybe he is friendly and start chatting with him.  But then he reveals the real reason he came.  He wants to know who owns the white cat, because he wants to trap the cat and take it to the pound (where they only kill cats).  I was totally shocked.

He had faked me out.  Pretended to be nice, friendly, then he's talking cat killing to a cat lover and if he thinks that's ok, well he's wrong.

I lit into him over it.  That I love cats, that Zeva is an owned cat, owned in fact right on his block not on this one, that there on no laws against her free roaming, and cat killing is something I hate.  I try to invoke empathy for her, tell him its not her fault her owners are not so responsible.  My arguments in her defense fall on deaf ears.  He claims he's not a cat hater or killer, that he wants to help her.  I say "killing her is not helping her." Again, I explain that the pound here does not help cats, only kills them.  My guess is he will trap her and dump her and claim, even to himself, that he found her a new home.  His actions, now that he knows she is owned, will be against the law.

I have a sick feeling that he may have killed other cats I've gotten fixed who have come through my yard.  I figured most were roaming males who went back to where they'd come from.   Now I figure differently.  I did not know I had a threat to innocent life so near me.

I hate people who manipulate.  To pretend to be friendly, then turn it to his real intent, is vile.  I am not a person who falls for that kind of behavior.  I'm not going to alter my values because someone was friendly at first and be a co-conspirator in harming Zeva.

She's been around for years.  She used to go in and out of Jack's house in fact and was best friends with one of his cats.  I miss Jack.

I tore down the outside Christmas lights as he left.  It was a statement, about  fakeness, how mean it is to trick someone, and of my frustration with the lack of kindness all around me.

I am so tired of this town, this place where I live, where I am surrounded by people  who hate cats.  This is no place for a cat lover to live if they want to be happy and feel peace.

What did you think, mister, that I'd not send you off my property, you saying you want to kill a little cat by taking her to the pound?    I'm not that low in self esteem.    Piss on you.

    1. Yes. He knows exactly how I feel and that he is not welcome on this property again.

    2. I'm tired of it, the neighbor across the street threatening another cat a few months back, to me, its hard to take here. I've never lived in such a neighborhood in my life. I spray painted a board, going to make me a big no trespassing sign. People don't come to my door to be nice. They come to complain about cats, not mine, because mine are inside only. Its not right. I can't bear it.

  2. I am so sorry. Do you know where Zeva lives? Is it worth giving them a heads up, so they can keep her in?
    Hiss and spit.

    1. Yes, I know where she lives, and I told him where she lives. As for whether they would care or not, doubtful. They're not exactly responsible types. I'm sure he went and visited them.

  4. You poor dear. And poor kitty. I hope and pray things turn out well despite the seeming odds.

    1. I hope so also. The guy knows she's owned now, maybe he will leave her alone. She's been in the neighborhood for years, so I have to wonder 'why now is he upset over her existence'.
