Six Cats Fixed Yesterday, One Today

This is another of the Lebanon collector cats, a brown and white male. He's not that old, but is skinny. They've been two weeks now up there without food.
This little girl, from the collector situation, cat 42, was starving and desperate. She has been eating nonstop since I trapped her.

I took up Pippi, Bear and Lucy yesterday to be fixed. Micro had slightly watery eyes, so I held her out of the bunch. I also took up the last two collector cats, a sick starving little muted torti, who was so pathetic in her wails in side the trap, it could make a person cry. She'd been without food since the whole thing started and it had nearly killed her. I've been steaming her, with an infant vaporizer, mixing antibiotics into her food and she has literally been gulping everything.

The male from the collectors place is less forlorn but also starving. We couldn't find anyone to put out food for those cats once the owner was banned from the property and that man came in, to work on the place, so it can either be rented or flipped. Neighbors think they're flipping it, but I don't know that for sure. The heartlessness exhibited in this whole thing has been astounding, and very hard on me to witness.

The sixth cat fixed yesterday was the one I found on the highway by the business. She was pregnant. She's tame and loving and makes me upset to think people do that to animals also. If she'd survived another three weeks, trying to beg scraps off strangers, she would have given birth to her kittens in the bushes there. Yes, she would have tried to care for them. She would have tried to get help for herself and them, from strangers, and maybe somebody would have helped her, but the character of many people these days may have caused her to suffer a horrible horrible end, as she approached someone, begging in her own way, for help.

So those six were fixed yesterday and only one today. It's still the Lyons street situation, this time the mother of the five kittens I dug out from under a shed in a backyard moments after they were born. A disabled woman housed the mom and newborns. That was two months ago. Now even the kittens are of age for spay, neuter and the neighbors want them fixed before they find them homes. This is also where the mother of Calamity is cared for. I got her fixed immediately. Calamity is still here waiting for a home.

  1. those poor babies - are you keeping them until they can be placed or has some place volunteered to take them once fixed and recovered? I know you can't take them back - they would just starve to death again. How can people be so heartless? I have a feeling when i come visit and you and i go out for fun guess what we're probably gonna end up finding????? knock on wood...

  2. If the expression that eyes are windows on one's soul, that cat has one beautiful soul!!! I am in love! What an adorable kitty - has a haunted yet independent look. You know this one has been through much ut will persevere. A surviver. They all are. I am loathe reallly to say I like one better than the others and that poor straving one just crushes my heart but I was so captivating by this one (No 4 from the top) that I could not stop looking. I am speechless (or wordless, a rarity, lol) looking. I have never been captivating so much by a kitty with the exception of my YY (short for Yin Yin and Quan Yin)who I had not planned on buying from a wonderful breeder since she was a show quality cat and I waned one that needed a home. YY would have been sold to anyone in that rather different world. However, one look, once I had her in my arms at 12 weeks and it was love at first sight for both of us. She literally picked me, as kittens often do, by placing her paw on my face, something she still does every morning! I was even in a different city and had to rush around, buying cat things. I had all of that home but she actually was a great traveler and seemed to know what she anted and what she wanted was to go with me. You know, I even slept on it a night thinking, I want a cat in a rescue but I returned the nezt day and she was waiting for me, came to greet me and literally ju,ped into my arms as if to say, "where did you go ,silly?" I cannot imagie my life without her now - and needless to say, she was spayed as soon as possible (show cat or no) and never had to have kittens to do that show thing. Instead she is a "celeb" amg my patients, lol as a cat therapist at the hospital I work at and she is soooooo great at that! She also comes to work with me and does rounds if possible (some kids- those having transplants) have to be in isolation! She will place her paws on the windows as if to say, why can't I visit them?

This cat strikes me as one who would be too. The eyes belie suffering and s/he would understand kids with cancer! Or any illness! I think!

Oh my Jody, I do not know what to do. I might have to go to BC in Oct- will that kitten wait that long, lol

  3. Poor little babies sleeping after their operations. They are so beautiful together with the black, gray and tabby. I'm so glad you got your car back and the people were good to you. If you move, you'll have to find a decent and honorable mechanic again and YOU KNOW how rare they are. LOL I hope you are finding more time to relax though I TOTALLY understand you stopping for the one on the side of the highway. I still have the last three rescue kittens and though I posted on PetFinders I only had 3 inquiries. One I responded to too late since I went out of town, the second only wanted to know if they were fixed and the third sounded quite odd so I deleted it. Now a neighbor said their son has a "cat lover" that might be interested in all three. We'll see. Sounds too eager to me. Wish I had your wisdom and experience to weed out the weirdies. Oh well, guess it will come with time. Please try to do something fun for yourself!

    Take care,
    Judith

  5. Thanks HB. I want to hear that you have been accepted on Big Brother! Pleeeassssee apply! In the end, if you're evicted, as you leave you can make some spay neuter statement, like, "Those a holes deserve each other (referring to those left in the house). They're so stupid they don't even fix their cats. Can you believe that?" You know something like that.

Judith, that would be unbelievable if someone took all three, really wonderful for the kittens, too. I'm not that good at adoption. In fact, I hate it totally because I'm not very good at weeding out weirdos.

Siobhan, are you talking about Pippi, the brown tabby kitten? That's fourth photo down. She's sleeping? That one? She is something.

  6. Pippi is a beautiful kitten - I suggested the name to Jody as she had such a "pipsqueak" meow in the early videos - or like Pippi Longstocking lol.... I've been noticing the pictures of her, too - she is captivating. Lucy, too, is beautiful - and has the most beautiful paws ever!
that poor starving kitten grabs me. she looks so scared, so little. I am still upset that she almost died due to such neglect.

  7. Actually, I like Pippi but I was referring to the FIFTH one down. The eyes to her (his?) soul tell some story!!!
